The Johannesburg Zoo’s servals, medium-sized African wild cats, are set to have their enclosure improved from the proceeds of a raffle.

servalRochester Home Furniture in Craighall Park donated a recliner valued at R6 000 for the raffle.

Some 670 tickets were sold, raising an amount of R3 375. Polite Ngubeni was announced as the winner.

The funds raised will be used to improve the behaviour enrichment structure in the serval enclosure.

Servals (Leptailrus serval) are African wild cats and are closely related to the caracal and the African golden cat. They have spotted coats and long legs.

The Johannesburg Zoo hopes that the raffle promotion will pave the way to bigger and better initiatives in the future.
