THE Zoo's Adoption Programme gives individuals, corporations, schools, clubs, families and groups a fun, rewarding way of joining the Zoo's family and contributing to the care of all its animals.

You can share your love of animals by adopting your favourite animal at the Joburg Zoo - either for yourself or for another animal lover, friend or relative. It's the gift that makes a difference!

And Letaba and his sister Siba are the latest members of the programme. The delightful pouncers were born at a private game farm in Thabazimbi on 12 April 2014 and arrived at the zoo on 10 July.

  • PLEASE NOTE: We regret to announce that one of the three original cubs, Jubba, unfortunately passed away after it turned out that she had been born with genetic abnormalities.

The hand-reared cubs were acquired in order to continue the species at the Zoo, whose seven adult lions have exceeded their life expectancy in the wild and have not bred in the last five years.

You can meet them at the AngloGold Ashanti Lion Enclosure between 9am and 3.30pm daily.

If you'd like to adopt the cubs, your R600 fee will get you a photo opportunity with the cubs, a personalised adoption certificate and information about your adoptees, along with free entrance and parking for the day.

Adoption fees and packages vary from animal to animal. To find out more:
