THE Managing Director of Johannesburg City Parks and the Zoo, Mr Bulumko Nelana invites you to mark the City of Joburg's official Arbor Day 2013 celebrations at the Joburg Zoo on Friday, 6 September at 11:30, corner Upper Park Drive and Jan Smuts Avenue in Parkview.

Arbor Week is hosted annually on 1-7 September and serves as a vehicle to engage with communities on the importance of street trees. 2000 learners from schools across the city, will be exposed to various exhibitions from partnering companies and will be engaged on the benefits of preserving healthy, thriving trees and the concerns faced in retaining the city's 10 million trees found in public spaces.

The event will reinforce the 'Green Call to Action' to residents, business and media to foster a society that is highly conscientious of trees which act as a natural filtration system to store pollutants and release oxygen; to combat the effects of climate change; that is rich in food nutrients; provides a habitat, tranquillity and beauty and has immense social and economic value.

The celebrations will also showcase the strides made in bridging-the-green divide and highlight the 3-year programme that will link the Joburg Zoo and Zoo Lake, to form an ecological hub of excellence, in the heart of Joburg's world renowned, manmade forest.
