Joburg residents have been encouraged to help City Parks by maintaining the pavements next to their homes. This will give the organisation more time to focus on the City’s parks, cemeteries and street trees that require more specialised maintenance services.

maintenance1Maintenance services in the city’s parks City Park is hard at work tackling backlogs caused by summer rains. “We’re appealing to residents to please be patient as we systematically work towards resolving the peak summer maintenance backlogs.”

To prepare for the rainy season, City Parks implemented a chemical spraying programme along the main arterials and adjacent surfaces to contain overgrowth. During warm wet weather, the rate of growth of long grass, shrubs and trees accelerates. Coupled with the rain, this prevents scheduled work being done.

At this time of year, there is also an increase in the number of residents asking for street trees to be pruned. For more details, see the press release issued by Johannesburg City Parks.
