Calling all budding zoo-keepers! If you're in grades 1 to 7, and you want to experience zoo life as it happens behind the scenes, you can join the Honey Badger Club and get to be a zoo-keeper one Saturday every month from 9am to 2pm.

The Honey Badger Club is an environmental and educational programme that enriches the lives of the Zoo's animals, while letting you follow Zoo staff into areas normally restricted to keepers only.

You'll get up close to some of the Zoo's most interesting wild animals, discover their habits and needs, and learn how zoo-keepers look after their welfare.

Your first Saturday visit to the Zoo as a Honey Badger Club member is free, to help you decide if you want to join or not. Thereafter, there's an annual membership fee, which also gets you a Club T-shirt.

There's also a Tuesday mornings programme for home schoolers, and for everyone in the club there's the Year End Party on 5 December.

If you're interested, ask your parent, guardian or teacher to contact Jane Maema on 011 646 200 extension 216 or e-mail jane.maema@jhbzoo.org.za. For more information, including dates, click here.
