The Greening Soweto initiative is one of the most exciting projects leading up to the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup. As South Africa readies itself to prepare for over millions of fans, players, media and more to descend on its cities and soccer stadiums, Soweto stands out as the gateway community. Johannesburg City Parks is pleased to offer corporations and other organizations a unique opportunity to participate in preparing Soweto for this special moment.
This initiative has the full support of the Executive Mayor Councillor Amos Masondo, and includes Johannesburg Water, Johannesburg City Power and Johannesburg Roads Agency as partners to ensure that the greening programme is coordinated to ensure sufficient water, power and roads concerns.
Greening Soweto is about planting trees to offset pollution and improve the environment of Soweto for citizens and visitors alike. We welcome all potential partners to join us in Greening Soweto... to make Joburg and Soweto a place we can be proud of, by creating a sustainable environmental legacy for our future generations.
