The face of Johannesburg Botanical Gardens is changing
The construction of the structure has started and is scheduled to be completed by end June 2006 (phase 1 and 2). The total completion of the project (phase 3 and 4) will be on the next financial year (2006/7). By 2008 the complex will be fully completed and functional. The complex will consist of, 2 turnstile gates to allow easy access to the garden. A security guard house will be built at the main gate. Two huge display at the entrance alley. These will be used to display plants of the month, JBG achievements, plants on our special collections, herbarium specimens and environmental themed days displays. An interactive educational room will have both fauna and flora displays for exploring. This will be a mini Museum where touching and experimenting will be allowed. Educational lectures and talks will be held from time to time. A Courtyard that is designed like an amphitheatre will be used mainly for talks and school group tours. Beautiful display gardens in the precinct will enhance the aesthetic look and feel of the complex. A car parking that will take about 500 cars will be completed by next financial year. This complex is built to even accommodate large numbers of people for big events in the garden and be able to cope with logistics associated with big events. This construction would mean a new Main Entrance for JBG would be along Thomas Bowler Road. The garden is changing and becoming more meaningful. |
