Introduction

The Environmental Education (EE) Unit within Johannesburg City Parks (JCP) aims to promote sound environmental and conservation practices through environmental education, awareness-raising programmes and active community participation on environmental issues/initiatives. The ultimate goal is to ensure that Joburg´s communities are aware of environmental issues and motivated to work towards solutions of these issues. Internal programmes for staff are geared towards enhancing their environmental competency within areas of their official responsibilities. The overall approach adopted is based on strong partnerships with others in order to reduce duplication, leverage resources and improve inter-organisation communication.
