Enviromental Policy

Johannesburg City Parks is the Open Space Management Agency of the City of Johannesburg and is mandated with the responsibility of providing and maintaining parks, cemeteries, street trees and environmental conservation services of the city.

 

The JCP mission is to develop, maintain and conserve the green environment and cemeteries for present and future generations.

 

The JCP vision is to be the leading African Green Environment and Cemetery Management Company.

 

JCP recognises that it has a responsibility to the environment and will strive to take positive steps to avoid/minimise the impact of its policies and business processes on the environment by means of the continual improvement of its environmental performance to the extent feasible and practicable, in a manner that is consistent with its overall mission and goals. 

 

JCP supports the principles of sustainable development and will manage environmental risks effectively and seek to realise the opportunities arising from the positive management of its ecological, economic and social responsibilities.

 

Johannesburg City Parks is committed to:

  1. Comply with the requirements of all applicable legislation, environmental laws, regulations as a minimum, and, where appropriate international best practice.
  2. Create and conserve a natural environment that is rich in biodiversity and is managed and maintained according to sound ecological principles.
  3. Promote environmental awareness and responsibility amongst all our stakeholders through training, development, education and communication.
  4. Incorporate environmental considerations into all operational activities, processes, policies and strategies of JCP.
  5. Develop, maintain and implement an environmental management system (EMS) based on the ISO 14001 standard.
  6. Work closely with employees, contractors, suppliers and the community to develop, adopt and implement environmentally sustainable practices.
  7. Operate in an ecologically sustainable manner by conserving natural resources, reducing waste and reducing the use of energy and water.
  8. Continually strive to prevent pollution, as well as to manage and minimise environmental hazards and risks.
  9. Conduct regular environmental audits to evaluate compliance and effectiveness of the environmental programme.
  10. Maintain transparent relationships with all stakeholders regarding environmental management and performance.
  11. Practise and promote open, transparent and effective environmental and corporate governance.
