Board Of Directors

Mr Griffith Zabala

Chairperson

Mr Zabala is the Managing Director of Integrated Consulting Management Services, which focuses on organisation development, human resources, development and management training. He is also a board member of Bridgerport Properties, Mbewu Investments and Women’s Development Foundation.

Mr Luther Williamson

Managing Director and Member of the Strategic Planning, Audit, Human Resources, Operations, Finance and Remuneration Sub-Committee

Luther Williamson is the Managing Director of Johannesburg City Parks – the greening conservation and cemetery agency for Joburg. Johannesburg City Parks is responsible for the maintenance and management of over 4 798 hectares of developed open space, 3 600 hectares of undeveloped open space, 1 775 hectares of developed arterials, 5 500 hectares of sidewalks, 1 088 hectares of cemeteries, 1 569 hectares of conserved areas, 174 hectares of water surface areas , 1.3 - 1.6 million street trees.

Williamson has an MBA from Buckinghamshire University, a Diploma in Management Studies from Buckinghamshire University, Diploma in Company Direction from The Graduate Institute of Management and Technology and a Management Diploma from JMDP in association with the Paris Graduate School of Management.

Prior to joining City Parks, he held a senior management position at the Nuclear Energy Corporation of South Africa. Before this, he worked as a regional manager for Otis Elevator Company. City Parks appointed him as Operations Executive in 2001. As acting MD during the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), Williamson ensured that JCP played a key role as host to the event. Following the merger for a cleaner, greener and healthier environment, he was appointed Managing Director in November 2002.

Williamson´s passion about the greening of Joburg, his visionary leadership and lateral thinking have positioned the company at the forefront of the environmental struggle, locally and nationally.

In addition to his corporate experience, Williamson was nominated Best Speaker for the Facilities Management World Africa convention (three years in a row), Best Speaker for the Annual Government Tendering 2002 convention and one of the best speakers at the Executive Secretaries World convention 2002 and The CEO and Executive Management Summit 2002 (topic was Corporate Strategy).

Mr Victor Ramsingh

Chairperson of Human Resources Committee and member of the Committee of Chair’s, Remuneration and Marketing Committees.

Victor Ramsingh is a Human Resources Practitioner by profession. He obtained his tertiary education from the University of Natal, Bachelor of Arts in 1984. He was awarded a Diploma in Strategy, Leadership and Change Management in 1992 from the University of the Witwatersrand. He went to America and obtained an Executive Development Program Certificate in 1992 from Harvard University. He is currently pursuing his MBA.

Victor commenced his working career with Pick ‘n’ Pay in January 1988 in the role of Human Resources Management Trainee. He steadily progressed and was appointed Group Industrial Relations Manager in August 1989 until June 1992. He joined South African Breweries in July 1992 in the role of Human Resources Executive until February 1995. He was approached by EDS and accepted the position of Human Resources Director from March 1995 to December 1999.

He assumed the role of Human Resources Director with Discovery Health for 10 months until October 2000 when he was approached by Africa Bank Limited in November 2000 for the position of Human Resources Director to March 2003. Victor tried his hand at entrepreneurship when he set up his own consultancy in the Human Resources field for just over a year when the corporate world beckoned. He joined Land Bank as General Manager: Human Resources in July 2004 until June 2007.

Ms Katherine-Marie Venier

Member of Finance & Operations and Audit & Risk Committees

Katherine Venier is currently the Head of the Joint Project Facility at the Department of Enterprises. She manages cross-cutting projects involving the 8 DPE State Owned Enterprises. She has worked for a mining engineering company,the energy regulator, the legal aid board (London) and Financial Services Board (London).

She graduated from Wits with a Bachelor of Arts in political studies and psychology and went on to complete her Masters in Psychotherapy at the University of London. She has also completed the Management Advancement Programme at Wits Business School.

Mr Thulani Nzimakwe

Chairperson of Audit & Risk Committee, Member of Remuneration, Committee of Chair´s and Human Resources Committees

Thulani is the founder director of AloeCap (PTY) Ltd, a financial and investment advisory services firm. He was also a member of the first Advisory Board of JCP. Before joining AloeCap, he was employed in the Corporate Finance and Investment departments of the Anglo American Corporation. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the corporate financial and investment field.

Ms Ndabezinhle Mabaso

Chairperson of Marketing Committee, Member of Remuneration, Committee of Chairs and Human Resources Committees

Ndabezinhle Mabaso is currently a Category Marketing Manager for Tiger Brands in the Culinary division. Her responsibilities include looking after the canned fruit and vegetable division. Ms Mabaso has extensive experience in corporate strategy and business management. She brings a wealth of experience in marketing and communication strategy.

Ms Danile Nyalunga

Chairperson of Finance & Operations Committee, Member of Remuneration Committee and Committee of Chair´s

Danile has over 7 years experience in Investment Banking with more focus on Development Finance. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1996 and completing her articles with Ernest & Young, she joined the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) as a Business Analyst. In 1999, she joined Rand Merchant Bank in their Structured Finance Division as a Credit Analyst. She rejoined the IDC as a Snr Account Manager in the Project and Structured Finance Division in 2002. She is currently a Manager in the CEO’s Office.

- Non-Executive Director and Chairperson of the Finance Committee of Johannesburg City Parks.
- Council Member and Chairperson of the Finance Committee of Cape Peninsula University of Technology
- Non-Executive Director of Mozal S.A.R.L

Professor Hamanth Kasan

Member of SHEQ and Finance & Operations Committee

Prof Hamanth Kasan’s qualifications include a blend of science, engineering, corporate governance, management development, executive/leadership development and coaching. His experience includes both academia and the water industry.

After completion of a BSc (Hons), MSc, Graduate Diploma in Engineering (GDE) and PhD, he pursued a career in the academic environment. He started as a lecturer and senior researcher and formed an active team of researchers in Water and Wastewater Research. Prof Kasan published many scientific papers, presented papers at many international conferences, trained undergraduate and post graduate students at masters and doctoral level. In addition he served as to Head of Department and Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science.

Prof Kasan is the General Manager: Scientific Services at Rand Water, which is one of the largest suppliers of bulk water in the world. The utility supplies the economic hub of Africa, in South Africa, viz., Gauteng.

Rand Water provides superior quality drinking water to 12 million people. Prof

Kasan’s division has been delivering outstanding performance for many years on a sustainable basis. Prof Kasan has been and is currently an active member of many water related organisations locally and internationally.

Furthermore, his leadership, management and corporate governance skills will facilitate growth and Satisfaction of stakeholder needs.

Mr Alan Carolissen

Chairperson of SHEQ Committee, Member of Remuneration Committee and Committee of Chair´s

Alan Carolissen is holding a senior management position at the Nuclear Energy Corporation of South Africa. He has a MBA degree from the Open University in UK and an Advanced Professional Diploma in Management from the UNISA Graduate School of Business.

He has extensive experience in corporate turnaround strategies in order to enhance sustainable operational cost-efficiency. He also has a wealth of knowledge and experience in Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) systems and procedures to ensure that all operational activities comply with national legislation and international best practices. His current areas of interest include corporate governance and risk management.

Mr Maropeng Bahula

Member of Marketing and SHEQ Committees

Maropeng possesses a Bachelor of Science degree from Wits University and a Master of Business Leadership degree from Unisa. He has working experience in technical, quality, production management and Sales/Marketing roles in African Explosives Limited. He applied with great success the following tools for productivity improvements and continuous improvement: six sigma, theory of constraints, 20 keys and Kaizen.

Maropeng wants to contribute to the City Parks board best practice and skills he has acquired in the private sector in the past 12 years in safety, health, environment, risk and the operations management. Maropeng is a firm believer in former American president John F. Kennedy’s famous quote: “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.”
